Chapter 1: IzaliaA Chapter by izzy v
My digital alarm sounds and I know I must wake up. My eyes open punished by the filtered rays of the sun through the window. The alarm ceases its racket as I sit upright. Through squinted eyes I can make out my new sword, Eros, resting where I last left it. I slip out of bed and open the sync menu. As the menu floats a foot away from me, I select the clothes I will wear and they materialize over my bare skin. I walk over to the counter top next to the disaster zone of my bed, pick up my new sword and step into the hallway. Eros dissolves in my hands and it is temporarily stored untangible, invisible as I walk towards the front door. As I reach the door I notice Edrie's door ajar. I pick up a mako fruit from the kitchen on my way out. Having closed the door behind me I notice Edrie on the opposite side of the spacial cavern we call home. To my left lies the waterfall I will practice next to today. My hand reaches down and touches the PSM unit clipped to my belt. It takes a common syncer two seconds at least to gather enough activation energy to get their sync crystal up and running. It takes me one point sixty-seven. I make a circular motion with my pointer finger in front of me and my sync menu opens. I select Eros from the weapons column and arrive at my usual training spot with Eros sheathed on my left. I instictively unleash Eros from its leather prison as the water phantasms erupt from the cascade. I move through my usual evolutions swaying with my sync crystals soft, byzantine melody. I go over the facts in my head. My sync crystal broadcasts my unique melody. Eros perceives the soundwaves and powers up. If I swing my blade at the right speed and momentum as the melody, the power in the hit increases exponentialy. The faster the note, the faster the hit. The stronger the note, the stronger the hit. Gather up enough perfect syncronized movements and you can unleash your swords special skill. After a couple of tedious hours of practice I sheath Eros and walk back down the narrow winding path. Farther along the path, Edrie walks in my direction, his hands weave intricate patterns with his sync gloves. As the paths conjoin we walk silently, no words are needed, that's just the way we are.
We spend the rest of the day busying ourselves with small nonessential works until the darkness knocks at the caverns door. The sun has long since slipped under when we change into more fitting clothes for what's about to go down. The star peppered sky beckons us as we make our way along the pathway ground into the stone wall. When we reach the roof of our subterranian home, we check each others equipment. I place the modified contact lenses in each eye. They protect from small debris and the speed of our flight. I place the ear peice behind my ear. Edrei snaps his fingers twice to check that the peice is catching the tiny vibrations in the eardrum and I do the same for his. I open the sync menu and equipt our AVE suites. Edrie's is set at a slightly slower speed so I know I'll be leading. A moment later we have checked the suspencions in our shoes and the MWR units clipped at our waistes. We take out our crystals and out melodies intertwine and soon the lit up night is filled with our melodical duet. As if on cue the beat of the song skyrockets and so do we. We sway with the melodies elegant sways. We rip through the forest and shoot up the titanic comunications tower north of our home. The song speeds up and we are gaining altitude fast. We reach the peak of our limits. The melody stops completely and we plummet earth bound. A flash catches my eye. A single thought. Shreikers. We expertly weave hands and start a vertical, spiral decent. We float suspended, in our rapid revolutions. Then we let go. Edrei ricochets heaven bound and I the opposite. My decending speed transends that of natural gravity and I will stike the earth in eight seconds. My feet point the way and I ignite the flight suite's boosters. I slow to a speed that the suspenders in my shoes can handle, but I will still obliterate anything I hit. My feet conect with the first of three shreikers and lift an enormous mushroom cloud of dust and debris. As the remaining two shreikers regain their footing, Edrie plummets behind me. He lands next to a girl I had not noticed, grabs her and shoots a few hundred feet away with her stuggling in his arms. I'm caught off guard and don't have time to react when the shreiker's tail slugs me against a boulder a few feet away. Edrei appears behind the shreiker. He summersaults over its head, shooting non-leathal pellets from his newly developed pistol. The shreiker whirls around and I get on all fours. Edrei lands on my back and flips backwards pulling out a special genade filled with a fast working paralyzing agent. I catch a glimps of the shreikers cheek pouches pulsing. Before it can blast Edrie with high potency sound waves, my right foot shoots staight up into the soft underside of its snout. The blast of high pitch sound waves shoot skyward. Without thinking I unsheath Eros and my right foot comes down. When it connects with the floor I flip horizontaly and swing Eros in a wide arch leaving a beheaded shreiker in its wake. When I land I see Edrie rushing in my direction. He frontflips over me. As his hands skim the air inches above me I unequipt Eros and take hold of his hands as Eros disintegrates. Edrei sticks the landing and the sudden force launches me backwards over the last shreiker. As its back comes into view, I re equipt Eros and dig it into its back. The shreiker turns my way and Edrie takes advantage of the situation. He charges the shreiker and his sword, Erastus, apears in his right hand. The beat in his melody drops and he drives Erastus into the shreiker with the force of a freight train in full motion. The shreiker falls. As we contemplate the wreckage we have caused from the excess power, we remember the girl. She is right where Edrie left her. © 2015 izzy vAuthor's Note
