He sat at the edge of the mountain and just observed as they thousands of humans clashed steel with orcs, orgres, and goblins. The humans were easily out numbered by the mixture of abominations. His fingers caressed the old wooden staff, this staff his only friend other then the spellbook strapped to this waist. That book was his life, well atleast it insured a longer life in these time of war and chaos.
The bloodshed just continued and seemed the war would never end, after a long hit of his pipe he rose, he was a small figure covered from head to toe in a long hooded robe, with a quick reach he pulled the hood down to expose his youthful face, he couldn't be more then twenty-one winters. With a deep breath he released several words, and out stretched his arms in the middle of his palms a small ball of fire started to flicker to life, first a low orange but soon it grew into a deep red and with a flick of his wrist the ball soared from the peak and flew through the air, as it passed into the battlefield it grew enormously, as it struck the ground it incinerated the bodies it contacted with easily killing two hundred-three hundred orcs and orgres. Almost instantly a mass of the army looked up towards the mages direction but he was no longer there, in the middle scorched field where the explosion hit was the small man, he looked up at the first orc and gave him a crooked smile
" Hello " he gave a brief introduction before he pushed his arms forward and massive force toppled waves of battle stances, the armored orcs, orgres and goblins hit the earth and just before they decided to react the earth reached up with tangling roots snaring them in place. The stronger ones started to rip the roots and rise but the mage quickly slammed his staff on the ground and the plants reacted as fast creating a horns and impaling whatever was in the area of effect. Severed foes splashed a wave of blood, the humans behind the mage were in awe, for a second they lost a breath and simple thought a god had interfered wit their struggles.
" Archers, unload on the ones behind the plants! " The mage's voice crackled like thunder the entire fleet of archers loaded arrows and shot behind the trap, They couldn't tell if they were successful cause of the height of the plants but the mage heard bodies hit the floor and cries of the wounded. Then for just a second it went silent, the mage looked down cause of some bouncing pebbles " Hmm? " He questioned what would cause this, then a loud crash was heard from behind the plants, and within seconds a monstrous Giant crashed through the razor plants, he was gashed and wounded by the act but nonetheless very successful in breaking the obstacle that delayed the army behind it. The mage leaped back a couple of feet in a floating grace reaching the front line of human defenders
" After i slay 'em your men attack! Kill 'em all! "
The mage closed his eyes and made a couple of hand signals, he held his hands upward and the sky above started to darken and the lightning struck wildly, and as if the entire rage of the storm was conjured into one entire bolt, as it was released from the sky the darkness and savage winds went away and carried its brutal power in that one bolt, just before it was to strike down to the mage he scream a single word and concentrated the energy into a ball of blue static, the massive power brought the mage to his knees as he held the extreme power
" AHHHHHHHHH!!!! " his mouth scream, as he gave all the strength in his body to release the onslaught! The ball hurled in speeds not visible to human eye, and it collided with Giants body, as the impact happen a deafeningly crackle of thunder and lightning rattled the battle field knocking back the mage and humans behind it. The Giant was not so lucky, it simply vanished in a white light, the field of thorns was set ablazed and the several waves of foes were destroyed with the might power of the mage. The caster hit the ground and quickly in response a Captains of the human army picked 'em up and asked him of his condition,
" I'm...fine now command your army! " the mage mustered enough strength to hold his weight but he was no use right now. He walked behind the shields and swords of the army. The Caption rose his sword to the heavens and shouted " Now men! We end this! Humanity will sing of victory tonight! Now let's kill them all!!! " With a new found courage the men rushed into battle and slaughtered every orc and their companions. Once the carnage was over and the army made camp off of the field of battle.
The Caption was in his room with his top officers
" Please escort the caster into my tent please " the Caption ordered and a soldier nodded as he retreated.
A few minutes passed and the soldier returned with the mage,
" Great finish Caption ya'll performed well " the mage spoke in a weak young voice
" I don't understand how you conjured such power, you're just a child! But kid or not you saved thousands of humans with your abilities and with that I owe you greatly my friend " The Captian spoke with joy.
" Please do not thank me, I was merely passing by and heard the battle drums but understand this war is not over those orcs have collected a massive army and my powers can't stop 'em all " A smile broke his hairless face " I could delay 'em however but not a complete stop " he laughed a little.
The captian held out his hand " I"m Joshua the Captian of this army and who are you my friend? "
The mage's smile widen " Well Joshua my name will be sung sooner or later, just keep an open ear and you'll find out " The caster accepted the handshake and vanished after.
The men stood in awe and all of them felt the spark the mage set in their hearts, it was a spark of hope for the survival of humanity! The war wasn't over but it soon would be shaken by the young lad.
