Deeper than skinA Poem by Danny SanchezThis came about from a conversation with one of my bestfriends
Am I less of a black woman because my skin is light
Does my struggle not matter is my plight against racism alright I suppose since my skin isn't dark I'm exempt from beauty At least that's what my dark brothers and sisters seem to point out like its their duty Racism is alive and well in our culture if you're dark your black is ugly and if you're light your black isn't right Is brown the color of choice I had no say in what the masters did to my ancestors we had no voice Color doesn't define who I am Color doesn't defer Gods' plan Color isn't a justification of status Yet a mission for the coalition Joining our differences is the ammunition Strength lies in numbers Segregation amongst us is somber My black runs deeper than the eyes can see I am blessed to be apart of royalty A queen from birth the color of my skin doesn't determine my worth © 2013 Danny SanchezFeatured Review
