Odd OccurrenceA Story by ivyheartA short story that I created from a dreamI sat down in a vast, rolling hillside that climbed past my vision. There were no bushes or trees in sight, just a flat expanse fading into nothing. All was lush green, except for the splashes of blues, yellows, and reds here and there. I don’t know why I came here, all I know is that I followed my feet to wherever they took me. Which was not, unquestionably, the best choice in the world. What exactly compelled me to come here, of all places, especially now? The wind slightly stirred, making the tall grasses tickle my legs and shoulders, but my attention was fixed elsewhere. With my chin tilted up, my pale green eyes scanned the skies. A storm was rolling in, but it did not look like any storm I have seen. Dark purple clouds were swirling dangerously, eating up the clear blue rapidly, and attempting to blot out the sun. Lightning flashed and thunder rolled. A hum was all about, it coursed through my body making me feel light-headed. Then biting fear hit me, firm and strong. It took me a second the register that it was not my own fear, but the fear of other people, even as there was no one else but me. Shaking these peculiar feelings away, a dark figure caught my attention. It was flying out of the storm. A crow. Chills ran down my spine at the sight of it. A caw rang out as it flew overhead, and a shower of feathers rained down on me. Floating gently down, one
sleek black feather’s destination was upon my left shoulder. In the moment that
it landed, the world became eerily silent. My thoughts started to race in panic
at the disturbing occurrence, and then an abnormally loud clash of thunder interrupted. Whispers of a thousand souls hugged my entire
being as the breeze flew lazily past, as if it was a yawn that had escaped from
the very storm itself. © 2011 ivyheartAuthor's Note
