Fading into Silence

Fading into Silence

A Poem by ivy thornhill

The walls hum with echoes I no longer recall,
Soft whispers of ghosts that never were.
They call my name like an old forgotten prayer,
Yet no one is there"no one is there.

The moon drips silver through the cracks,
Spilling light on an empty bed.
I reach out, craving warmth, craving touch,
But the cold is all I get instead.

Once, I dreamt in colors too bright to hold,
Sun-kissed mornings, laughter in gold.
But time is cruel"it drained them dry,
Left me drowning in shades of old.

Time moves like a lover who’s turned away,
Still near enough to break my heart.
It lingers, teasing, whispering lies,
Then leaves me the moment I fall apart.

I trace my name in dust on the window,
A quiet plea that fades too fast.

Like a breath, like a thought, like a dream once loved"
Nothing I touch seems to last.

If I vanished into the hollow night,
Would the stars dim? Would the earth grieve?
Or would the world go on without a pause,
For a soul too lost to believe?

I speak, but the silence swallows me whole.
I scream, but no echoes remain.
I reach for a hand that will never come,
And disappear into the rain.
