one of my favorite poems/lyrics i have ever written. i won 2nd place in my school's writing competition with this

Dice and Cards
And Blackjack dealers
An honest game
For gamblers and stealers
Whatever happened to traditional play?

Poker chips and Russian Roulette
Time's running out
So place your bets
Now, it's put it all in
Or nothing at all

You can either win gracefully
Lose distastefully
Play honestly and get beat
Pull a fast one, be a cheat
Everything you see
Even your pride
Could be on the line

Look Miss Queen of Hearts
You're tearing him apart
as he watches the King of Diamonds
Showering you with sparkling glass

He'd love to beat him with some clubs
But they're nowhere to be found
So I guess he'll have to settle for a spade or two
To dig into the ground
His very grave

Resignation
Across his face
Gin in hand
He takes his place
On the familiar stool
Across the bar

Memories
Come flooding right back
When she smiled at him
At him, above the rest
He was on top of the world
A mountain of prestige

He did anything for her
He does anything
Gave up everything
Gives up Everything
Just to see the smile
one more time
That's now long faded away

His heart
shattered
Across his empty platter
His diamonds sparkle
In someone else's hands

His clubs are bent or broken
And are tossed right in the trash
All he has now is a spade
to dig
his very grave

His luck is running out
Out of time
He's out of her mind

He can't even begin
To know where to
pick up the pieces of
the game
scattered on the floor
of his life

Queen of Hearts
Why can't you be kind?
King of Diamonds
do you have the time?
Has it already run out for him?

Clubs won't you serve as crutches?
Just one last time
So I won't have to pick up a spade
To dig his very grave
