The BlueBird

The BlueBird

A Poem by Katie Snyder

I watch the scene before me

with rainy eyes

on a sunny day.

My tears glistening

behind the surface

as I keep listening

to the words of Love

I am surrounded,

trapped,

by people who's love is true

which gets me thinking

and then I realize I am blue.

A bluebird

surrounded by lovebirds

who have taken to the sky.

Oh, how can I not but want to fly?

To spread my wings

and feel the air

beneath me.

I too am a bird.

I too can fly.

Maybe not in a pair,

but with me, myself, and I.

One day, soon enough

I too will take flight.

So goodbye sad thoughts.

I will be happy with being a bluebird

for at least one more night.

My rainy eyes

and their skies have cleared

And now I rejoice in what I hear.

Sounds of love. Sounds of true.

My heart, yet not taken.

Could it belong to you?
