There Ain't No Rest for the GoodA Poem by Isa RuffattiPart I There aint no rest for the wicked, That’s what they said. But it ain’t the good doing the resting, There sure is rest for the wicked- Here at school. It is the good who are studying hard, It is the good who are working on projects- While the wicked copy and do nothing. It is the good who are loyal friends, It is the good who are responsible students- While the wicked party and do nothing. Yet- It is the wicked who have good grades, It is the wicked who have many friends: There is rest for the wicked. Perhaps- It is that the wicked are many, and the good are few: There ain't no rest for the good. I study hard, I work on projects, I am a loyal friend, I am responsible- I care. My grades are not to boast about, I have few friends, and am lucky and grateful to have them. They don’t study, They don’t work, They are not loyal, They are not responsible- They don’t care. Their grades are boasting material, They have many friends. Part II It gets better, you’ll see They say. Upon leaving the playground, No longer touched by the innocence of children- The Monster inside comes out to play. Tag with the police, baby killed a man Hide and seek with the CIA, baby will detonate a bomb very soon And the good have no choice, But to play along. The many wicked, this is what they do The few good, this is what they work to stop It gets better, you’ll see They said. From meek exceptionally bright nerd with high ideals- To an ends justify the means politician still fighting the good fight. From irresponsible party drunk- To perfectly sane mass murderer. I see. © 2015 Isa Ruffatti |
