I stayed up all night that night trying to form a plan. I needed to get her to leave for like a week so I would have time to escape. I went through all kinds of scenarios and it was almost three in the morning before I decided on one. Then I had to perfect it.

I decided I was going to tell her the next morning that I wanted my birthday cake to be made with the eggs from a pink goose. Pink gooses are found on the other side of the world from where we are. And it’s where I know she has friends because she went to visit once. She was gone for a week. It was perfect. I went to bed at around five feeling hopeful for the first time in the last 24 hours.

When she showed up the next morning I didn’t make her wait at all. I was prompt and nice because I knew I had a better shot at getting her to leave if I stayed on her good side. I was terrified of letting her do her thing to my hair but I couldn’t let her know that I knew what she was up to. I had to play my part for a little while longer.

After she had “massaged” my head and I got over the feeling of being out of it I popped my question.

“Hey. So I was thinking. My birthday is coming up in a week and I would really like my cake to be made with the eggs from a pink goose. I know they’re a long way away but you haven’t been to see your friends in a while and it would be worth the trip. I’m sure they would love for you to visit. Please please please please?”

I held my breath, my heart beating furiously against my chest, for her response.

“well I guess you are only twenty once and we want it to be an extra special birthday. I think I could take the time and go to make it worthwhile for you.”

I jumped up and down in excitement. She thought I was just happy but she had no idea. She was leaving and so was i. I totally picked up on the double meaning in her words and they kinda made me really angry. But that’s ok because I knew that I wasn’t going to have to deal with her anymore. I helped her pack some stuff and let her back down. I watched her climb into her car and drive away. I then resumed my happy dance. The only think holding me back was getting out of the silo.

I had packed the night before and all I had to do was run upstairs to grab my stuff. All was ready to go. I looped my hair the hook and got ready to let myself down. I was finally doing it. I was going to get out of here and go do something with my life. I sat on the window ledge and slowly eased myself down so I was hanging a couple of feet below the window. And then I heard a car. Let me tell you something. I have never moved so fast before in my life. I flipped myself back into the silo just as the car came into sight. It wasn’t my guardian thank goodness. I had never seen this car before. I don’t see very many because the closest town is half an hour away in any direction.  I waited for the car to pass when it happened.

The car spun out. Just as it was coming out of the spin it hit our grazing cattle sign and flipped. I was so scared. I got back on my hair hook and slid down as fast as I could. I didn’t even stop to think about the fact that for the first time in years I was free. I ran straight for the car. Inside it was a guy; a very attractive guy who just happened to be unconscious. I couldn’t believe my misfortune or his. I could tell that he was hurt and the only thing I could do was get him back to my tower. Then I realized I had no idea how to get back in. my plan was for getting out and not coming back. I looked in his car to see if I could find anything that would be useful.  I found his luggage and a huge fish hook.  I was sure that would work fine so I took it and went to see if I could get him out of the car. It was hard but I managed to get him out of the mess. Then I figured I had another problem. How was I going to get him to my tower? Resorting to my long hair again I looped it around him several times and started pulling him back home.

The poor guy was probably uncomfortable and in a lot of pain. He would grunt every time I went over a rock or a pothole but I couldn’t do anything about it. We finally got back to the silo the fun began. I threaded my hair into the hook and made a knot. Then I stood there for a good half hour tossing it as high as I could, trying to catch it on my hook. On what must have been my one billionth time I finally caught it. With the hair I had left I made a harness for him and tied him to me. Then I pulled him up. It was difficult. He was heavy and you add that to my weight it was a bit more challenging then pulling up that witch.

We finally made it up and I hauled us into the silo. I lost my balance and tumbled backward. He landed on top of my and winded me. It took me a minute before I could breathe again. I closed my eyes and took a couple of deep breaths. When I opened them again he was staring at me. Realizing that this must have been very awkward for him I said the first thing that came to my mind. I gave him a quick smile and said, “hey there hansom.”  He gave me another confused look and passed out again.
