 Five Years   --3/19/04

Of all my friends in the past
a few of them remember me
It's only been five years
a few of them resfuse to say my name
It's only been five years
most of them have forgotten me
It's only been five years
and one. Just one still talks to me
It's only been five years

And to think
of all the people who read this
a few of you will remember me
in five years
a few of you will refuse to say my name
in five years
most of you will have forgottem me
in five years
and one of you. Just one will still talk to me
in five years

Now I know what most of you
are about to say
I will remember you
for five more years
I will say your name
for five more years
I will not forget you
for five more years
and I, I will still talk to you
for five more years

But a lot happens
in five long years
I have people who used to do everything
with me; refuse to say my name
so forgive my cynical views
if the human mind
and it's human lies
for five more years

Then you can come
an tell me how wrong I am
if you remember me
five years from now
if you are willing to say my name
five years from now
if you know where I am
five years from now.

In five years... alot can happen, and you captured that very well here. I like the structuring, it wasn't overpowering, and helped keep the message clear. Very good, I hope you end up posting more.

I can very much relate to this. When I think about all of the people who were the center of my world at the time I graduated from high school, I realize that I don't know where any of them are now.

I recently "bumped into" my very first lover online. Though we parted ways amicably enough at the end of the summer before I started college, I was amazed at how little we had to say to each other when we reconnected. I look back at the 25 years since I graduated from high school, and I see a very long line of people who were once important in my life, but who are no longer any part of my life at all.

You've captured that so beautifully here. Nice job!
