Time and Tides

Time and Tides

A Poem by don't know

Time and Tides

Love, like an ocean's tide rolls
and tumbles, washing onto the coasts
of our heart but never stops at the shore.
It consumes, drowns, and engulfs
much more than the edges;
the fragile and delicately composed
shorelines of our souls.
Love, like an ocean rises and falls
and our heart swells with sensation.
Like water quietly smoothing away
and erasing footprints in the sand,
so time erases scars, and dirty fingerprints
that have marked our hearts
in the name of love.
The violent nature of the sea is masked
by its beautiful vastness and profound
depth,
Its secrets submerged
sub-surface.
The truth is masked by love,
for love and beauty are the ultimate
concealers. Love blinds,
beauty masks.
Water conjoins with time-
and time, the revelator
will heal all
True lovers rejoin at the lips
for not even beauty will conceal
poisonous waters forever,
truth will come as surely
as the tide will meet the shore;
and as it came, rolling and tumbling
love will one day leave,
and it will take everything with it.

thanks for your kind words tia louisa.
in time it will totally wash away our hearts...love is a strong body of water for sure...really well done metaphor sustained throughout this piece...i can hear love splashing against the shore in this...hear the rolling and tumbling (as Cream sang back in the sixties)
