Baptism

Baptism

A Poem by cricket

restless dreaming
my head ducked and bobbed
beneath unforgiving waves
Maybe I was drowning

Maybe I was being baptized

Baptized by my pain
Baptized by the very
cracks and flaws
That I thought
Had allowed me to
Sink

I wonder if there is an ending
One I never got to see
Where I drag myself onto the beach
Thanking that merciless water
For proving I am strong
Kissing the warm sand
Before looking up
At the sun

It would appear that religious baptism is symbolic of other baptisms such as the infamous 'baptism of fire' and such experiences in life are akin to rites of passage and turning of pages. A very engaging read. Thanks for sharing this poem.

I am an optimist so I prefer to think of a baptism taking place here. At times we can all feel we are drowning, not one of us is perfect. We are all flawed. The final part of your poem speaks to me about strength and determination. Thank you for sharing.
