Breaking FreeA Poem by Iris JayneTrying to please everyone doesn't get you anywhere. You say yes They revolt You say no And someone’s hurt You go up You’re deemed ambitious You go down They’re happy They order around Pointing, Turning you around in circles, Blindfolding you from the truth, Still you abide Mute Deaf Blind Others’ wishes hold you back Like strings Like shackles Like metal cords Playing their game When you should be winning yours Until you lose heart And your own deterrence Keeps you from the prize Your dreams scattered And theirs still intact You pick up the pieces Shattered beyond recognition They point They laugh They turn you around in circles They blindfold you from the truth But this time you see The darkness lifted off Dream Hope Play the game again Your newfound will binds the pieces once more And maybe this time The strings will fall. © 2010 Iris JayneAuthor's Note
