"Hey, how are
you?" An infinite combination of words in
language, we’re stuck on a phrase we don’t even mean. I respond with the usual “I’m
good, you?” I phase out. As if my brain is on autopilot. The conversation progresses into a monotonous
explanation of the days to do list. A forced laugh later, “anyway…” I move on. Headphones
back in, baffling how rhythmic words from someone I know nothing about mean
more to me than the conversation I just had. At least these words have some substance. A stream of smile, conversation. Fake smile, conversation. Fake smile, Fake conversation. The corner of my eye notices something, a thought follows 'is that...?'. Rinse. Repeat.
