Harken days of old's condemnor,
Ere life alit all to bestir,
Darkened ways acold in tremor,
There shy of brittle truth we were.
Ill faced in judgement through the creed,
Akin to none of nothing missed,
Till grace in us meant to be freed,
To win, to summon what we wished.
When thy enrapturer brought thee,
Hithermost away from naught,
The nigh capture you fought free,
With this most chastened thought:
"I belong together here,
In this enduring journey,
I see throngs who never veer,
Amiss nor render injury,
Toward those who climb beside,
To remote vistas torn asunder.
To board I've chosen. I decide,
To devote this unborn wonder.
To any dawning effort made,
To create a loving world,
To any gone who ever paid,
To see it come unfurled."
My heart is touched each day,
Ye travel from that birth.
Thy part tis much the way,
We have to come with earth.
In faults the fray has found thee,
Though slighted there thy essence,
Exalts the day around me,
To brighten here my presence.
With thy blessed design ye came,
And since you followed true,
In my best defining aim,
I give this sooth ode to you.
