Chapter 22 Dad

Chapter 22 Dad

A Chapter by Jessica L. W.

I wake up to find Terrian next to me, blood in his hair, all over his face, and his chest. There was a bandage on his chest. It’s because of me that this happened.

“Young love.” I look at Mother, she had built a campfire and was sitting next to it, grinning at Terrian.

“That boy loves you.” She looks up at me, “Will he be the next king?”

I jump, “N-No! No way! No! No! No!” Mom laughs.

“That was how your father reacted when his mother asked him about me.” Her grin disappeared for a moment back came back like nothing happened.

Terrian stirs, “Marilynn.” He whispers. I look at him, grab his hand, and smile, Terrian smiles in his sleep. He looks so innocent.

“Your father wanted to call you Maxine.” I look back at her, “He’s all I can think of. I got rid of all mementos of him, but I see him in my dreams, I see him in the sky, and I see him in you.” She looks at the sky, and starts to cry.

Terrian wakes up, he tries to slip his hand out of mine, but I tighten my grip. Dad, I love you. I miss you.

I start to feel the tears roll down my cheeks. I let Terrian remove his hand.

I remember that one time, I was six, I was playing in the garden with my pet bunicorn, a rabbit with a horn like a unicorn, when I saw a blue dragon fly across the sky, I freaked out, screamed, and fell, managing to skin my knee and rip my dress.

Dad came running over to me, the guards behind him and he asked me what was wrong.

I told him about the dragon, he grinned. He explained that not all people in the kingdom were humans, that some were animals, and that we should care for them too, and protect the forest, the caves, and the rest of the land, for them.

Terrian’s arm is around me; I place my head on his shoulder, and continue to cry, wrapping my arms around him.

I remember, on Dad and Mom’s anniversary, I was eight. Playing with some of the kids, in till their mothers pull them away for what they say was bothering royalty, so I sat in my throne right next to Daddy’s watching everybody dance. Daddy grabbed my hand, and pointed to a family friend, he had a son.

I jumped up and ran to him.

    “Hi!” I say and smiled.

“Go away,” he said, “I’m waiting for the princess.”

“But, I’m the princess.” I stare at him.

“Yeah, you are whatever your dad says you are. Now go home and tell him your not.” He shooed me away.

I went back to my throne and sat down. Dad looked at me, and went to go talk to his friend, and than he talked to the son. Who looked at me, fear in his eyes.

He walked up to me and bowed. I shifted uncomfortably. We were good friends, in till Dad died. I think his name was Jeb.

I stopped crying and looked up at Terrian. He was looking down, his back hair covering his eyes; his face was a little red.

“I’m sorry.” I scoot away from him. His arm falls to his side, and falls to the ground, passed out again. It must’ve hurt for me to lean on his shoulder. Does he really love me?
