Chapter 9: Babysitter

Chapter 9: Babysitter

A Chapter by Jessica L. W.

I was walking through the halls, looking for Alice, where had she gone?

I turned the corner, Jace, rats! He looks at me, his eyes shining, “There you are beautiful, where had you run off to?”

“Oh, just looking for a servant.” I hid my hands behind my back, hiding the picture of my sweet Marilynn.

Jace jabs his thumb behind him, “There’s one over there.” Behind him was Clare, the head servant.

“Thanks Jace.” I did one of my amazing fake smiles, which Jace saw through.

“You’re looking for the traitor, aren’t you?” He stares at me.

“Jace, now why would you think that?” I stared right back.

“That’s just like you, I do something nice for you, and you turn around and stab me in the back! What kind of queen are you?” He demands.

Marilynn’s face flashes through my mind, the same thing happened to her and me, I do something nice, and she wears the eyeliner! I get her a gothic dress as a joke, and she loves it, but I must save her from Jace, even if it means killing her.

“I’m a queen that would like to lecture the traitor, do you know where she is?” I think there was a cold look on my face, because Jace grinned.

“She’s over cleaning up Marilynn’s room, my queen.” His grin becomes a cute smile. I give a peck.

“Thanks Dear. I’ll be back soon.” I say as I turn around and walk towards the staircase.

When I was out of his sight, I ran to Marilynn’s room, tripping a little on the last stair.

In the middle of Marilynn’s charred room, was the little Alice, sweeping up the ashes. She looks up at me, a scared look on her face.

“Hello, Mistress.” Her voice was shaking a little

    “Hello Alice.” I reply.

Alice leans the broom against the black bed and walks up to me, “May I help you?” she asks.

I break down into tears. Alice hesitates, but she wraps her arms around me.

We were like that for a couple minutes, when I heard footsteps, I jump away from Alice and whip the tears. It ended up being Clare, carry towels to the laundry.

Alice grins at me, “We’re getting Marilynn back?”

I shake my head, “Jace would kill her, would you go check on her for me? Please?” I beg.

Alice smiles, “Of course I will.”

So, my baby girl will have someone to look after her, if she’s not dead yet.
