Chapter One: Michael

Chapter One: Michael

A Chapter by Jessica L. W.

Michael opened his eyes a few minutes later. He looks around. Nothing was left in his room except dust and boxes.

“What the hell happened?” he says aloud. He stands and tries to open the door. His hand passes through the door knob. “Holy crow!” He yells.

“What is going on!” just then someone opens the door.

In steps Nina, but she looks different. She has gained weight, all in her stomach. Wait, is she? No she couldn’t be. She is PREGNANT! Michael thought.

“Oh Michael why did you have to leave us!” she sobbed.

“But I didn’t leave Nina. I’m right here.” Michael tries to hold Nina but he just falls through her. Nina’s head shoots up.

“James? Are you up here?” she calls.

“Nina, who is James?” Michael asks but realizes its no use. She can’t hear him. In walks a tall man with dirty blond hair.

“Oh Nina, calm down. It will scare the baby. Its due any day.” He walks up to Nina and cradles her. “I told you coming here would upset you.”

“I know I thought after four years it would be easier.” Nina said. Four years? Michael thought, Four years since what?

“Michael’s death was hard for everyone. Even me, and I just went to school with him.” James says as he helped Nina up.

“What? I didn’t die! I’m right here!” Michael lunged for James. He fell on his face as James walked with Nina over to the boxes.

“We have to move his stuff up into the attic before the buyers come.” Nina picked up a box and walked for the door. Later after all the boxes were put away a couple came to look at the house.

They are an odd looking couple. Michael thought. The girl has black and purple dreads and her lip pierced. The man has his eyebrow pierced and long black hair. They both are wearing biker clothes with a Harley parked out front.

“John and Mary, I am required by law to tell you that a person was murdered in this house four years ago.” James said as they filled out the paperwork for the deed to the house.

“We know that’s why it’s so radical to buy this house!” Mary smiled

“I was murdered!” Michael shouted, “Murdered! By who! And why! Why aren’t you answering me!” Michael’s hands clenched into fist, and he tried to punch the wall, but his fist went right through, “Wait, am I ghost? Cursed to haunt this house forever? Man, that sucks.” Michael sighed.

“How was he murdered?” John asked. Thank God someone asked! Michael thought.

Nina starts crying again; James hugs her and says, “He was stabbed in the back.”

“Oh, I’m so sorry were you related?” Mary asked.

“Yes, he was my brother. It happened on my birthday, we had the entire town here and someone came inside and…..” Nina broke down into tears.

“I know how you feel, right before our wedding my mother was killed in a hit and run.” John says looking at Mary

“Well we thank you Mr. and Mrs. Johnson, for taking this house off our hands. We will be by twice a month for the next year until the sale is finalized.” James says as he hands John the keys.

Why am I stuck here? How will I get out? Michael thought. Will I be here forever?
