Chapter 7: Drew

Chapter 7: Drew

A Chapter by Jessica L. W.

We were walking through the forest. As we walked, it started to get cold. Everyone had jackets, except for Sophie.

“Ugh! It’s freezing! Why do we have to go north!” complained Sophie.

“I don’t know it’s probably the Ice God.” Blake answered. It’s been about a month since we met. His hair has gotten longer. Well hair does grow. I know.

“What you thinking about?” Man, I was caught staring at him! I blushed and looked away. He laughed and put his arm around me.

“You’re so cute.” I looked up at him, and he sneaked a kiss. He gave me a grin, “Sorry, couldn’t wait.”

I stopped walking and stared at him, “I’m sorry, I-” I threw my arms around his neck and kissed him. He smiled at me.

“Come on, Lovebirds, let’s hurry up and get out of here!” Sophie ruined the moment. She was rubbing her arms, she really must be freezing.

I took off my jacket and handed it to her, “Sorry.” I smiled, “I didn’t mean to take long.”

We were walking, Blake tried to put his jacket on my shoulders, I told him not to, and that I didn’t want him to freeze for me.

“Please take my jacket.” He handed that brown jacket towards me.

“No, Blake!” I started to shiver.

“Fine, we’ll take turns, your turn.” He slipped the jacket over my shoulders. I took it off and handed it to him, “Blake, no. It’s your jacket.”

“And you’re my girlfriend, please, for me.” He handed me the jacket again. I took it, and slipped my arms through the arm holes. The jacket had his scent, like mountains.

I felt the wind brush my hair out of my eyes. I grinned. Blake, thank you.

We found a town, go straight I told everyone what Plant said, and we found ourselves at a handout for teenagers.

“That guy’s hot.” Sophie gestured to a fifteen year old guy, tall; bleach blonde hair, light blue turtle neck, black pants, and black shoes. He was talking to his friend, and then he looked me straight in the eye, they were a bright blue.

He walks up to me, “Do I know you?” I shake my head. Blue streaks appear in his hair, “You’re one of us.”

We started to walk away, with blue hair following us. When we reached the forest I asked him, “So, what element are you?” He stared at me like I’m crazy, “We have been guessing that your ice, are we right?”

“You’re crazy; there are no such things as people being elements.” He looked down.

“Stop trying to convince yourself, your power is telling you the truth.” Holly stood right next to me, her arms crossed.

Blue hair glared up at her, “Who are you guys, you stare at me, a voice appears in my head, I follow you to see what trick you’re playing, and now you guys go insane.”

“Have you seen your hair? It’s turning blue! That voice in your head, that’s your power! Listen to it, it will make sense!” The air around us got warm.

“Holly, calm down.” I put my hand on her shoulder.

Blue hair stared at Holly, the air got colder.

Fire appeared in Holly’s hand, she threw the fireball at Blue hair. He raised his arms in defense; the fire ball turned into ice and fell to the ground

“See, you are a god, an ice one in fact, join us. We need you.” I said as I held out my hand. He took it, “What is your name?” I asked him.

          “Drew,” He grinned.

The rocks around us were vibrating, I let go of Drew’s hand and looked at Blake. He was looking at his feet. I walked up to him, he looked up at me, “I’m sorry, I’ll try to contain my jealousy.”

“You being jealous is just showing how much you love me.” I smiled. I heard Drew asking questions in the background, and Sophie answering them.

Blake grinned, and I walked into his arms, four pairs of eyes were on us.

Blake skin was cold, I still had his jacket. I got out of his arms, took off his jacket, and handed it to him, “No, you keep it. I’m fine.” Again with this argument?

“Blake, please take the jacket. Let’s not argue today.” I smiled; Blake blushed and took the jacket.

“Blake may I talk to you.” Holly takes Blake by the arm, and drags him deeper in the forest. I sat down on the forest floor, Drew sat down next to me, “So, my chance of getting you are gone.” He half-heartedly grinned.

“Sorry, I love Blake; it’s always going to be like that.” I smiled.

Drew and I talked for a while; till I saw the rocks vibrate. I jumped up, and saw Blake and Holly come through the trees.

Blake was mad, “Blake are you ok?” I walked up to him and took his hand; he looked at me, let go of my hand, and then looked at everybody else, “Why don’t we stay in town for a little bit?” Holly nodded, Sophie said something about shopping, Drew looked at him in confusion, and shrugged, Lilly smiled.

They all looked at me, “Well leader, should we?” Holly asked.

          “I don’t see why not.” I grinned.

Lilly looked at me, and while everybody was walking back into town, she stay behind with me.

“Are you ok?” I stared at her and stared crying. Blake, what did I do now? I sat down, Lilly sat down next to me, “It’s ok, he’ll come around, trust me.” She smiled.

He always has, but what’ve this time its different. No, that’s just darkness giving me those thoughts. Blake, I love you.

I got up, and started walking back into town, Lilly following me. When we broke through the trees, Holly was there, “I’m sorry Olivia.”

“What are you sorry for? You didn’t do anything.” I felt another tear roll my cheek.

“I told Blake something, and he got mad. Sorry.” She walked up to me and hugged me.

When she let go, I walked, to where ever my legs will lead me.

I ended up at a hotel, Blake was inside. He saw me, walked up to me, and handed me a key card, “Room 129.” He walked away, leaving me in front of the hotel.

I walked in, found my room. It had two twin size beds. I chose the one by the window. I took off the backpack, sat on the bed and cried.

Lilly came into the room a few minutes later saying. “You’re the person in the most pain in this town.”

I stood up, “Sorry, I’ll go distract myself.” I left the room, left the hotel, and started walking the streets.

I was still crying, when I passed up Blake, I closed my eyes and kept walking, but he grabbed my arm, I opened my eyes, He stared at me. He looked away , but he still had a grip on my arm.

He looked me in the eyes again, but this time, I saw a tear.

“I’m sorry.” He said, but before I could say anything, he let go of my arm, and walked away.

I ran, in the opposite direction as him. I ran to the woods. Sat down by a tree, and cried.

What did Blake mean when he said he was sorry? Why was there a tear? Me being in pain must have hurt him. I hurt him, I cried some more.

When I stopped crying, I got up and started walking back to the hotel. When I got there, Lilly’s backpack was by the other bed.

I laid down on my bed, and stared up at the ceiling and waited for Blake to come around.

We have been in town for a week, and everyday I run to the forest and cry. Last time I saw Blake was a week ago. Should I run today? No, let’s just stare at the ceiling.

“Olivia lets go get breakfast.” Lilly said, looking down at me. She had a worried look on her face.

“No thanks, you go.” The ceiling was an off white.

“By the way, Olivia, Happy Birthday.” Lilly walked away, out the door.

My birthday, today’s my birthday. I forgot my birthday. Tears swelled up in my eyes, one spilled over. I sat up, and stared at the wall. Was that why Blake has been avoiding me, to surprise me for my birthday?

More tears spilled down my cheeks. I got dressed; preparing for a run. Not yet. Blake is coming here? Thanks Plant, I’ll wait for him.

I sat down on my bed.

A couple minutes later, there was a knock on the door. I walked up to the door, and opened it. Blake was standing there.

“Hi Blake.” I said. He stared at me.

He brought out a little box out of his pocket. He opened it up; it was a ring with my birthstone, Emerald, “Happy Birthday.”

I hugged him, “Thank you.” I took the ring out of the box and put it on, “I love you.” I kissed him.

He kept staring at me, “Don’t start the hurting me argument, again.” I smiled and took his hand. We went into the lobby; everybody was there with backpacks, and mine and Blake’s.

Holly grinned at me, Lilly smiled, Sophie rolled her eyes, and Drew looked confused, “Does this happen often?”

“Yes.” Holly and Lilly said at the same time.

Drew looked at me with pain in his eyes; Sophie looked at him from behind.

Blake check us out, we left, with our newest member.
