Chapter 6 Jace

Chapter 6 Jace

A Chapter by Jessica L. W.

“We begin the search for Marilynn today.” I tell my guards, “Remember, she is a devious monster. She’ll do anything to kill me. It’s your job to catch her and bring her to me.” The guards just stared at me, like they were trained to do.

Jace smiled at me from where he was sitting, my heart stayed still, but I smiled back.

The thought of regret came back, but I pushed it away, fearing him.

The guards left, in search of my little baby.

I felt a slap in my face, “Sorry Jace, it won’t happen again.” Oops, reflex, been slapped too many times by Jace. It was Alice; she had tears in her eyes.

“How could you hit the queen? Execute her!” Jace ordered.

“No, Jace, it’s alright. Leave her be.” I tried to convince him.

He stared at my face, but wouldn’t look me in my eyes, “Please, it would mean everything to me. You would be the best husband.”

“Fine, let her keep the traitor.” Yes, I get to keep my baby girl’s only friend. Wait, her only friend? She only had one friend, and that was her personal maid.

“I’m sorry Queen, I let anger get the better of me, it won’t happen again.” Alice scurried off.

Jace glared at me, crossed his arms, and walked away. It’s the silent treatment tonight.

I went into Marilynn’s room, again. How is my little girl doing? I hope she has found someone to help her. Poor Marilynn wouldn’t survive out there, but everyone in the kingdom hates her, who would help her?

I ruined her life. I killed her father, poor Kevin. I’m sorry; I didn’t want to trip you, I didn’t want to let you fall down the stairs. Jace told me to. He lied to me. He said that you were holding me back, you were actually pulling me forward, through everything.

When we were five, I slipped and fell in the garden, you, the prince, helped me on my feet, and walked me back to my mother, who worked for you. You were so nice, so forgiving,

I loved you. Jace told me you didn’t love me, I believed him.

Jace said he loved me, I believed him again, but if I don’t listen to him now, he will kill me, then blame it on Marilynn. I can’t let him do that. I will have to kill her, before Jace does.
