Chapter 3 Powers

Chapter 3 Powers

A Chapter by Jessica L. W.

We were at Holly's new house. I hate calling it that. It was my house, but, oh well, it's Holly's now.

"Please let me make it up for you! I will do anything!" Blake bribes to me.

"Dude! I told you it was okay the mountain! Leave it alone!" I yell at him.

"It still doesn't seem right. Let me make i-" He stops short, he stares at me like he sees a ghost.

He kneels at my feet, "I'm sorry! I'm sorry! Please don't kill me!" I look in the mirror on the wall.

My eyes were glowing a bright green, when I saw them, I got scared and the green fades out.

"I, I'm sorry." I said, tears in my eyes. I run away into my room, now mine and Lilly's, sit in the corner, and start crying.

Holly comes in a few minutes later. She sits down next to me. I put my head on her shoulder.

"It's ok. No one blames you."

"I could have hurt him. It is my fault!" I cry even harder

There was a knock on the door, Holly says they can enter. It's Blake.

"I'm sorry." He says, "I made you angry, it won't happen again."

"No, I'm sorry." I got off the bed, "I got angry when you were trying to make life easier for me." I got up, "I haven't understood my powers yet, I'll try to keep them under control from now on." I stopped crying.

Holly stands up, "You guys are perfect for each other." She says laughing.

"We are not!" We both say.

"Perfect." She walks out of the room.

I notice Blake was staring at me, "You like me, don't you?"

"No, umm maybe?" He says, scratching the back of his head.

"You barely even know me." I say staring at him.

"You went through a lot, more than a kid like you should go through, and it went on for ten years. Who wouldn't like you." He went on, "I mean, you died, you are first experiencing your power, and you are doing well in controlling it. Any regular god would of killed me when he was first angry."

"I'm not that good, I have a voice inside my head, trying to curse me." I shouldn't have said that, I barely know him, he is just some rock god.

"What's his name, the voice I mean." He looks interested, and maybe angry.

"She wants to be called Maxine." I said, not knowing if I should be sharing this information.

He shuts the door, "I should tell you my story, since I know so much of yours."

Blake was mountain climbing with his Dad. There was a avalanche. Blake was buried deep under the rocks. He was digging through the rocks. It was so dark, he couldn't tell the time. When he did get out, he went to town. He called home, through a pay phone. His mother answered. He told he was coming home, she started yelling at him, saying that whoever was calling better not joke about her dead son a week after his death. He did go home. When his mother saw him, she started screaming about ghost. Blake got angry, then there was a small earthquake, and the house collapsed, killing his mother, but he made it out all right. He lived in the mountains, then Holly found him, telling him who he was, he was training and a month later , I come along.

"Wow, mines not that interesting, I was mostly in darkness." I looked out the window at some birds, and found a longing to fly with them.

"You were in the darkness way longer than it takes for a person to go crazy." He says, "How did you keep sane?"

"I like the darkness, it lets me think in peace." I said, still staring out the window, watching a female crossbill. Still longing to fly.

The world began to grow, I was shrinking. I felt lighter. I heard Blake screaming for Holly. When Holly came in I completed the change. I was a Crossbill.

Holly started to laugh, "Blake, you called me for this? This is nothing." She put her hand on the floor, palm up. I jumped on it. I sang, it was terrible. Holly laughed at me, "Still a terrible singer, eh? How you feel? Can you see color?"

I tried to talk, but, you know, birds can't talk. Holly laughed.

"Why don't you change back? Oh wait, ok lets see, try willing yourself to be human." She put me down and the world started to shrink, or I was growing.

"Wow." was what I said when I transformed back.

"So my questions from earlier. Did you feel alright? Could you see in color?" Holly was really interested, Blake was looking down.

I walked around Holly to Blake, "Blake? Are you okay? I didn't scare you too much did I?" I put my hand on his shoulder.

He was shaking, he looked up at me, there were tears in his eyes. "S, sorry, you scared me, I didn't know you could do that." He said wiping the tears. He half-heartily laughed. I didn't laugh back, I hugged him.

"I'm sorry." I said, I felt his arms move slowly and were finally around me.

          "It's okay." He replied.

"Awww. You guys are so cute." Holly said.

I let go of Blake to look at her, behind her was the window. The sun was setting.

"Well this was a interesting day." I say, "I was brought back to life and met Blake and Lilly, which, by the way, where's Lilly?"

"Lilly is still coping with the becoming a goddess." Holly said.

"Shouldn't we help her? She needs to know she isn't alone." I say as I walk towards the door.

In the living room, Lilly was sitting on the couch, staring at a off T.V.

"Lilly? Are you all right?" I asked.

Lilly jumped, "Yeah I'm alright." I notice some scratches on her arms, and more were appearing.

I run to her and look grab her arms, "What's happening? Are you doing this?" I ask her.

She looks down at her arms and shrugs, "I'm feeling the curse of other people's pain, I guess that's normal."

Holly sits on the couch next to Lilly, sees me fussing over the scratches and says, "Yeah that's normal for the goddess of pain, you shouldn't worry, she'll get used to it, and the feeling of pain will be normal to her, which is good for battle."

I calm down and turn around, and went into my room, collected some pajamas and underwear, went to the bathroom, and took a shower.

After I got dressed, I went into the living room. I sat on the couch. After my favorite T.V. show, Blake sat next to me, something was bothering him.

"Anything you want to talk about?" I asked.

"I went into Holly's room." He hesitated.

"You want to know about the vines?" I asked.

"Yeah, if you don't mind." He looked at me.

"I killed my parents in my sleep, ten years ago."

"Wow, you were capable of such power, in your sleep?" He asked.

"You know, I never saw them. How big were they?" I asked.

Blake stood up, his hand towards me to help me up, I took it, and followed him to Holly's room.

Holly kept my parent's room the same, except for the sleeping mat on the floor. The vines in the room were huge! There were as thick as my head, and all around the room! It was like a jungle!

I put my hand over my mouth. I did this? Why is Holly sleeping here?

Someone knocked on the door. Blake and I both jumped and turned around. It was Holly.

"So going on an adventure you two? How you like the jungle?"

"I did this?" I asked, crying.

"You started it, but it was growing for ten years." She said with a grin.

I looked at what I did, how I killed my parents. I felt an arm go around my shoulders, I looked at the owner of the arm, Blake. He hugs me and I cry on his shoulder.

When I stop crying, I get off his shoulder, "Sorry." I say, looking down.

"I should be the one saying sorry, I brought you here, I'm the one that caused you pain." He puts his hand under my chin and lifts my head up to face him. "All I've done today was cause you pain." He drops his hand and looks away, "You should be getting to bed its late." He walks away. Leaving me with the vines, and Holly.

"You should listen to him, go to bed, you've had a hard day." There was anger in her voice, he was stealing me away from her. I walk away, to mine and Lilly's room, and went in my bed, there was two twin size beds in the room now, and slept.
