![]() Rayne's LoveA Story by Ashlee![]() A girl run for the guy she loves...He is gone...But there is a way to get to him.....will she take it???![]() Rayne sprinted down the hall as fast as she could. She had to get there before the plane left. She came to a fork in the hallway and hesitated. “Which way, which way?” She looked left, then right. “Passengers boarding “NO,” Rayne screamed and raced down the right corridor. Tears spilled out of her dark green eyes and mused brown hair whipped around and smacked her in the face. “STOP THE PLANE,” She screeched when she made it to the loading dock. She stopped dead in her tracks as the airliner took off into the bright sunlight sky. She collapsed onto her knees and cried. The sobs racked her body until she was all but still. “Are you alright ma’am?” A deep voice sounded above her. Rayne looked up at the tall and broad shouldered man. His deep blue eyes held a kind of softness to them. His dark burgundy hair seemed to be the only thing out of place with the rest of him. He smiled kindly and offered her a large hand. She wiped the tears from her rosy cheeks. After taking a breath to calm herself she grabbed his hand and he pulled her up off the hard ground. “Name’s Marty,” The man smiled at her before starting in the direction from whence she had just come. She scurried after him. “Worked here all my life and ain’t ever seen a young lady cry for missing her plane.” Marty chuckled lightly and his belly shook a little. Rayne looked at the man in front of her and sighed. “So, young miss, what’s your name?” He turned and asked her. She gulped and looked at the pink laced up shoes on her feet. “Rayne,” She whispered softly. “My name is She glanced around nervously as he led her through door after door. Her hands unconsciously came together under her chin. She twiddled her fingers as they continued walking. “So,” his voice made her jump slightly in fear. “Why were you crying?” He pulled her forward and put a large muscled arm around her shoulder. “I, um…” She glanced down so as not to show that she was about to cry. “Someone I truly love got on and left. He didn’t even say good-bye.” Her voice shook with the sadness, a few tears fell. She once again wiped the tears away with the back of her hand. Marty sniffled and gave her a surprisingly soft and sweet hug for a big man. He backed up, grabbed her left hand, and gently yanked her forward. She stumbled for the first couple of steps before regaining her balance. She strained, unsuccessfully, to look around Marty to see as to where they were heading. “Mr.,” Rayne’s voice fell quiet as the entered the large lobby of the airport. The noise startled her; she whipped her head in every direction. Babies cried, Mother’s scolded little children, and there was yelling coming from somewhere overhead. Her eyes closed tightly, as the noises grew louder and louder still. She could hear the sounds of the plane engines running, getting ready of their lift off. Her face scrunched up as someone bumped hard into her right side. “Hey,” She turned to find that no one was around to answer her. “Meanie,” she mumbled the offensive word under her breath as Marty yanked her forward to keep her moving. “Where are we going to anyways?” Her voice held worry and anger. Marty turned to stare straight at her. He smiled and gave her a wink; then, turning around he once again propelled Rayne forward. He zigzagged threw the monstrous crowd of humans until they reached a door that held a sign. No one beyond this point! Marty reached for the silver handle and turned it. The door opened with a soft low creak. Darkness lay beyond the white signed door. “Maybe, we should,” Marty dragged her through the darkness to something cold to the touch. Rayne let out an ear-piercing scream. Her eyes tightened and she collapsed to the freezing cold hard ground under her. She shivered with fright and coldness. “Don’t touch me please.” The words squeaked out of her mouth. She took short deep breaths in a failed attempt to calm herself down. Marty bent down next to the fallen girl and sighed. “I was going to help you find him.” His voice held comfort and a longing to help. Rayne sat up and blinked away the last few falling tears. “Really,” she looked around to figure out where in the heck she was. She remembered feeling cold hard metal beneath her hand. Plane, her mind concluded. Suddenly, a huge bright light overhead turned on to illustrate a small aircraft carrier. The metal shined like glistening water under the cloudless sky. The wings jutted out like those of the paper airplanes she made as a child. The carrier stood about ten feet above her. Rayne’s mouth fell open slightly as she marveled at the beauty of the craft. “You will have someone fly you around to the places that the plane is destined to stop.” Marty’s words filled her head. “Destined?” She gave him a puzzled look. Marty shook his head and grinned. “This will get you to the marked places before the passenger flight he is on does.” He said it like it was the answer to the whole universe. He gave her another sheepish grin and pushed her close to the gleaming carrier. “The pilot will be here shortly.” He opened the only door and ushered her in. She stepped up and sat down in the gray covered seat. She grabbed the belt and strapped herself in securely. The door banged open and a thin man in blue jeans stomped toward Marty. He wore a white button up shirt that was not at all buttoned. His tanned muscles showed that he worked out a lot. The helmet on his head covered his face. Rayne blushed and looked away as the two men argued about the rules and what not. The pilot jerked a paper away from Marty, shook his hand, and marched to the small plane. He hopped in and waved a farewell to the man that had brought her here. He held up the paper and pinned it to the front. He strapped his belt and started the engine. It roared to life, as if to say ‘I am ready to go top notch.’ The pilot turned to Rayne, the helmet concealing his face still. “What’s your name?” His voice was kind and yet somehow boyish. His voice sounded somewhat familiar to her memory. “Rayne,” She looked away from the man next to her in the seat. He shrugged and moved the carrier into place. “ “Copy that cruiser; you are cleared for take off on landing two, over.” A voice boomed through the speakers around them. Rayne shut her eyes before she prayed that they would not die. They began to move, she could feel it. The air rushed up against the metal trying, in vain, to rip it to shreds. “Are you gonna be okay?” The words seemed to roll off his tongue as his head snaked around to face hers. She opened her eyes and looked as him wearily before replying. “I’ll be okay,” She dropped her voice lower, “maybe.” The craft moved forward and raced faster along a runway. She gripped the edge of her seat and she took a deep breath, hoping for all that was good, that it was not her last. The plane took off at top speed into the blue sky. “You can look now.” The young mans’ voice held laughter. Rayne slowly opened her green eyes and peeked over the edge of the bolted window. She gasped in awe at the sight of the ground below. “It’s beautiful,” she smiled and giggled. “I really hope he can see this too.” Her statement caught the man off guard. “What,” he looked at her awkwardly. She lowered her head and spoke in a soft manner. “The boy I love, he got on that plane and went away. I hope that I will be able to see him again.” Her voice sounded hopeful. She glanced over at the pilot and smiled. “I know I’ll see him again.” She leaned back against the seat. “I’m sure you will.” The pilot turned and smiled underneath his helmet. Rayne looked at him questioningly. The aircraft began to descend. “First stop, “He’s not here.” He voice shook. The young pilot, who had came up behind her, put his arms around her shoulders. He turned her away and led her back to the fight they took. “Don’t worry.” He placed her in front of him and slipped in the seat next to her, once more. “I promise you that we will find him.” He sounded sure of himself as he gave her a small hug. Once more, they took off. “I need him.” The words slipped out of her mouth before she could catch them. Her hands fled to her face in embarrassment. The pilot laughed and turned to her. “Let’s go to “What?” He reached up and tore the paper from in front of him and tossed it at her. She grabbed the sheet and stared in amazement at the words written so carefully. My Dearest, I know that you love me and I want to tell you that I am so in love with you, that I can’t stand it. Your face brightens up my life as does your gorgeous smile. The plane made its way down onto the cold Alaskan ground. Snow blew everywhere as the carrier came to a halt. Turn around my love. The words on the paper confused her. She twisted only to come face to face with her lover. The helmet had come off before she had a chance to look. His dark eyes seemed to be the only thing she stared at. They were like windows staring into her soul. She took a quick gulp of air as she noticed his hands. They expanded out in front of her, presenting a small blue velvet box. She opened it up and gasped. “Will you marry me?” He spoke delicately into the stillness. Rayne smiled and tied herself from the seat. “YES!” The statement echoed around them. She lunged at him and gave him a passionate and sweet kiss. “I will love you to the end of time, Jacob Carter.” She draped her arms around his neck, never to let him go again. “Come with me.” His voice was deep, sensitive and caring. He took the ring out and placed it on her left hand. The ring glinted in the moonlight. “Anywhere,” They slid onto the frozen ice patch where they had landed. He walked toward what looked like a hill, but you could never really tell in the snow. “Close your eyes.” Rayne shut her eyes as he dragged her, an extra couple of more steps. “Now, open them.” She did as directed and her mouth fell open in awe. The Northern Lights spiraled above her like phantoms in the night sky. “It’s pretty.” She kissed him gently on the lips. “Let’s stay this way forever.” She leaned into his chest and surveyed the beautiful scene above her. Her fingers entwined in his and delicately folded around the love of the ring. Fine
