My Grandpa

My Grandpa

A Poem by Ashlee
"

This is a poem dedicated to my grandpa, who died.

"

There is a time that I remember.

A time way back in mid September.

When I was just a little girl,

My Grandpa was my whole world.

The smell of whiskey, gas and sweat,

To me, was like a precious pet.

This rough and calloused hands were as gental as can be.

I remember once they lead me to a cotton wood tree.

The prickly feel of his loving kiss,

Is something that I dearly miss.

He always knew what I thought.

When I was scared, it was him I sought.

One night he said he would return, to take me to a special place.

How could I have known that it would create an empty space.

Just after I turned eleven,

My Grandpa went home to Heaven.
