Gone but not Forgotten

Gone but not Forgotten

A Poem by insanity
"

I wrote this one on September 11, 2006, the five year anniversary of 9/11, just discovered it earlier this morning, while I really don't care for the structure I used the content has some merit.

"

It was a day

Just an ordinary day

Like any other before it

Sun rose without a care

Morning coffee made with care

Scent of a fresh omelet

Fills the air

Dread fills the air

No more money in the coffer

Morning news danced across televisions

Talking heads droned on televisions

Nothing new to offer

Pancakes piled up

Bills piled up

Like the pancakes

Syrup ran down the stack

Syrup ran down the stack

What a breakfast this makes!

Time moved slowly

He moved slowly

In bringing breakfast to an end

To cat and fish he said his goodbyes

To neighbors he said his goodbyes
No idea as to what lay around the bend

Down suburban roads he drove

Up city streets he drove

Arriving at five of eight

Walking briskly to the elevator

Talking softly in the elevator

Better hurry, can't be late

Little did he know

Little did they know

Sharing their last chat, last morning brew

A great shadow soon cast itself upon them

A great fear soon cast itself upon them

They all prepared as it came into view

Strangers from a foreign land

Came to a foreign land

To shake it's foundation

As the first plane struck

A chord had been struck

Fear paralyzed the nation

Was this an accident?

It had to be an accident

There's no other way!

Talking heads droned with pace

People scurried with pace

What an unbelievable day!

This was not the end

There is no end

And no beginning too

Hate knows no boundaries
Evil knows no boundaries

As they soared through skies of blue

The second tower in view

The people below in view

The devil himself smiled at the event

America was brought to her knees

The bravest of heroes brought to their knees
Their message had been sent

This day was not over

Nor had the towers toppled over

Great losses had already been sustained

News of another plane

And then another plane

As steel and concrete rained

The towers two, fell from the sky

Left a hole in the sky

Heroes now lost

Pentagon ablaze

Pennsylvania field ablaze

Freedom has a terrible cost

Innocents lost

Innocence lost

Virgin eyes and virgin ears

Silent witnesses

Unwilling witnesses

To America's bloody tears

That September day

Like any another day

America stood together

The divided, united

The united, further united

There isn't anything we can't weather

We will never forget

It is impossible to forget

The travesties committed that September day

To rebuild, it will take years

It will take years
For the pain to fade away

Another great American tragedy

Another sad American tragedy

For the history book to take

Fatherless children

Motherless children

Lie in fear, alone and awake

The world changed that day

We were all changed that day

Through it all
Bleeding hearts persevered

Without our heroes, we persevered

America stood tall

Those lost, never to be forgotten

That September day, never to be forgotten

Forever engraved in stone hearts and steel minds

It taught us to be more kind to one another

It taught us to love one another

It gave us a faith that binds

But we seem to have lost our way

We all cannot find our way

We lost it that September day

The pain exists still

Silence exists still

The sounds of silence kill

We only have a long while

We only have a little while

To make each other smile

To make the peace, we've dreamed of

For there is much to dream of

If you believe, believe in love
