Hard Candy

Hard Candy

A Poem by insanity
"

Some things are just hard to swallow.

"

The twisted stairways of your mind

Make escape impossible to find

Shadows of doubt

Come in, as thoughts go out

You say everything’s fine and dandy

But it’s all just hard candy

Think softly, don’t make a sound

You speak silently when no ones around

Whispers sound like a banshee’s cry

Mind is empty, throat is dry

But there’s always an excuse handy

When you’ve got to swallow hard candy

It’s just too much to bear

Insanity is something you won’t wear

Perhaps another drink can quench

Or more perfume can hide the stench

Of cigarettes and brandy

Or better yet, the reality of hard candy

The writings scrawled across the wall

Blood red, up and down the hall

Fires burn inside the hollow room

The air fills with impending gloom

As the taste of alcohol becomes bland

The candy appears in your hand

Excellent play on words. Great rhythm.
Dark and interesting.
I like it.

First of all I really like that this poem maintains a beat and rhyme, because few peoms do that now and days. I also like a lot of the imagery and the tone it creats. I also think the metaphor of hard candy is brilliant.
