A Journey to the Dark Side

A Journey to the Dark Side

A Poem by insanity
"

An ode to what is, in my humble opinion, the greatest album of all time; Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon.

"

Speak to me

Silence is all I hear

Tell me what you see

When blinded by fear

War cuts you like a knife

But all you care for is your vanity

Money rules your life

As you slip into insanity

Take another breath

As you run this rat race

It will only lead you to death

Running at such a torrid pace

Too busy, always on the run

Too afraid to care

When all is said and done

You were too afraid to breathe in the air

The sun rises with undue haste

As you sit idly in the corner of your room

But you'd rather let it go to waste

Watching for signs of the impending doom

You let it all slip away

With plans and promises to keep

Always saving them for another day

Once more you drift into sleep

The bell begins to chime

As the clock strikes five

Nevermind the river of time

We must now arrive

For the great gig in the sky

A chorus of angels sings

You feel as though you can fly

With your newfound wings

Driving down the boulevard

In your flashy automobile

White fence frames your yard

But this dream can't be real

Back in the urban nightmare

You put axe to grindstone

But will anyone care

When you and your money die alone

Come and join us

Sit down and stay awhile

Don't make a fuss
Just fire a volley across the aisle

As they cry out in pain

Do not cross the wall

We ask that you refrain

For we are not like them at all

They say there's a man

Who's the keeper of all the thrills

He'll do whatever he can

To get you some of his pills

He seems to think we're all sick

As he leans toward a curious tyke
'Here my boy, take your pick,

Have any colour you like'

Like a tree with no roots

He wanders the streets for years

Trembling in his boots

He is a slave to his fears

His mind has been destroyed

They say no thought can remain

Nor can reasoning be employed

When there's damage to the brain

There's a band in his mind

But one day he begins to wonder

When they play music of another kind

The words echo like thunder

And he begins to shout

Trying to form the words on his lips

No words come out

As sun and moon eclipse

In your days on this earth

There are chains you must break

From the moment of your birth

There is a chance you must take

And with that notion, we end our trip

We hope you'll join us again soon

On our magical spaceship

To the dark side of the moon
