Innocents and Innocence

Innocents and Innocence

A Poem by insanity
"

Can't we all just get along?

"

Time has stopped
And the air is clear
The ball has been dropped
Peace has replaced our fear
All hatred fades away
And we love one another
But later that same day
We go and kill each other
Names without faces
Kill faces without names
Caught up in the paces
Of such garish games

Perhaps if we could stop and listen
To the words of the song
We too could imagine
The world getting along
For when religions die
And money has no value
When white doves cry
Because peace has shown through
There is nothing left to fight
No causes left to take
No governments to ignite
The wars we do not wish to make

If only the world could hear
What John had to say
Our path would be clear
With his insight leading the way
Hate gets us nowhere
As we stare at a blood red sun
Such notions lost in the glare
Never to come to fruition
As we squander the greatest chance
We often wonder why
In war and romance
Innocents and innocence must die
