Pixelated ParadiseA Poem by insanityThis is about the proliferation of technology in modern society and the many issues it brings along with it.
They say There’s no salvation In this wicked world Of deceit and imitation
Wistful and worried The children softly sigh Playgrounds and play yards Left deserted as they cry
Numbers and pixels Fill our sight today One zero one The message leads us astray
Perhaps we’ll figure out Our logic is flawed As we hide behind This digital facade
In this age Of materialism and egotism The more we indulge The greater the schism
The puzzle rearranges A revelation is unveiled Here in this pixilated paradise A new king is hailed
We write our final chapter In the great book of faces Used to graffiti my spaces
As we sit in our rooms Our brains begin to rot This is the life Our digital menagerie has brought
Some say it’s beautiful But I just want to give it a rest For it is hard to be philosophical When all is in jest
Here in paradise With the wisps and pixies We can roam free Like nomads and gypsies
Or are we simply dreaming Never satisfied We’re always scheming
How can we make it And get our big break Becoming part of the virus Is a chance we gladly take
For with every click We fall deeper into this rabbit hole Bleaker and blacker It leaves it’s imprint upon our soul
In paradise We’ve built a wall Of our own ignorance The higher it rises, the further we fall
I fear for our future And as the bottom approaches I don’t doubt that when the bomb drops It’ll be just duct tape and roaches
For what is our youth But disciples to their messiah The box with a screen A modern day pariah I often wonder Why in such a sanctimonious tryst Do we celebrate this digital hex
In the loneliest moments On the darkest of nights I sit reflecting upon Society’s many blights
If she’s thick or thin Does it really matter If you don’t quite fit in
Stand out For together we rise Above the digital downfall © 2009 insanity |
