The Jungle: Theology and Inequality

The Jungle: Theology and Inequality

A Poem by insanity
"

Not for the ideologically sensitive.

"

I can hear the talk

Out on the sidewalk

Words are hurled

Around the world

Women and minorities beware

It's a jungle out there

Men don't let it go to your head

That's what the wise man said

We live in a society

Where there's a veritable variety

Of people of colors and shapes

But let's recall we all come from apes

So why do we treat people one way

And monitor the things we say

Yet when others come around

Self-censorship is nowhere to be found

Don't you find it odd

When they worship the same god

Yet there is no theological unison

Which leaves me with one question

Who has the authority

To decide who is the majority

Why is it that the fools

Get to make all the rules

You cast down others who are different

You think your rules are god-sent

Written in a two thousand year old book

Did you ever care to take a look

At a different way of thought

Perhaps you're afraid to get caught

Forsaking all you were ever taught

For a topic that's not so hot

There's more to life than serving your master

In fact that will only kill you faster

When you put all your pennies in one jar

And make a bomb out of your car

Only to learn that no virgins

Lay waiting to absolve your sins

Nobody is there to let you off the hook

Didn't they tell you that in your holy book?

Across the world in many nations

You cause violent vibrations

Because you treat women like caged animals

You'd give a warmer reception to cannibals

Of this I'm entirely sure

Though you claim your intentions are pure

I think you're just stuck in the past

Slow to change your ways, you'll never last

The young people of tomorrow

Hang their heads in sorrow

They know what's at stake

They say give us a break

We don't care for the laws you enforce

We wish corruption would take it's course

So we can install a new way of thinking

And stop this ship from sinking

But it's not just far away from here

That ignorance is bred from fear

Even in our own backyards

Racial inequality is in the cards

In this grand game of poker

We shall soon find our joker

There is no such thing as clemency

When dealing with racial supremacy

Intolerance of religion and race

Causes us to do an about face

But don't forget to watch your back
When running along life's track

We all answer to the same starting gun

We all sit and ponder under the same sun

We all marvel at the same night sky

We all cry when innocents die

Black, brown, tan or white

We all fight the same fight

We all want the same ideal

We want freedom to be real

We want this pain to cease

We want world peace
We want to rise above hate

If we start now, it's not too late
