Do Not Live to Satisfy the Expectations of Others.

The focus must be placed on self-determination 

Be true to thy self above all else 

Embrace your gifts and shine 

 

The only caution is to remember

That inner voice is not always 

Your own 

 

Listen when it suits the creative process

Ignore it when it hinders your creativity 

Always knowing it’s a privilege to create

These are wise and helpful words which remind me of a book I read long ago--"The Courage to Create" by Rollo May. This applies to any creative craft, but for me, it especially applies to artwork. Applying that first brush stroke is like approaching Goliath with nothing but a stone to throw.

I find much solace in the idea that I am lucky enough to write poetry...
It is something that I need to have...and yet I don't feel responsible for anything I write.
I feel like a conduit...I just hit the keys.
I like the idea of being wary of the inner voice and that it isn't always our own.
