"

“There is only one way to happiness and that is to cease worrying about things which are beyond the power or our will.” ~ Epictetus

"

Surrender is not giving up

It’s the understanding

That some things are outside

One’s control

Coming to terms with this

Will ease one’s mind

Understanding that one

Never steps in the same

River twice

Jim, thank you so much for your words and visit.
Epictetus taught that philosophy is a way of life. You have a way of construing his teachings into the here and now, with the caliber of poetry such as this. It astounds me the precision and clarity you bring into focus!

VERY TRUE, this poem emphasizes the importance of recognizing and coming to terms with the inevitable changes and uncertainties of life.

Quite a straightforward write,.

The phrase "never steps in the same river twice" alludes to Heraclitus’ philosophy on change, adding depth to the poem.

Thanks for sharing... -Amy

Reminds me of the Serenity Prayer often seen in people's homes,
Especially love your last 3 lines, they add a new dimension :)
