Visit an animal shelter, or rescue, just once, and you will realize the importance of adopting these animals. Always keep in mind that second-hand animals make for first-class pets. Many are surrendered by people who are unable to provide for them, or who simply do not want them any longer. Some are strays. And of course, there are stories that I just don’t want to get into; Nacho was one of these sad cases. Sometimes, animals go through abuse that is completely unimaginable. But it’s never their fault. With a gentle hand, heaps of patience and kindness, these animals learn to trust and wag their tails again. Adopt don’t shop. 🐶 “Rescued is my favorite breed.”

I've adopted a total of six cats from animal shelters through the years. I have two now, both of which are like children to me. Last November, I had to have my Maine Coon put to sleep after fifteen years, and it devastated me to no end. People who don't have pets have a hard time understanding that. How can a pet's death have such a devastating effect upon a human life. I held her while she was injected. My friend, knowing how much she meant to me, paid for everything, the services of cremation, the Urn, and a cast imprint of her paw imprinted as a keepsake in a black leather box. All I had to do was pick the Urn I wanted. People pay hundreds of dollars for pure breeds of dogs and cats, while these shelter animals, who are often abused, homeless, or orphaned, lie in wait for a loving home, and that's only if they're lucky. Mary, your "Nacho" and my "Willow" were two of the lucky ones. Bless them for loving us. I hope your posting this will raise awareness to people everywhere to adopt - not shop! They need love, too!

I am so sorry for your loss. I would like to think that he will always be there for you and that he has retired from playdates. God. I wish you and your family endless patience. It is so nice of you to write something like this for him, he will always be remembered fondly.
My heart goes out to you and I offer my sincere condolences in this best friend loss; they are special indeed and they all need a loving, caring owners and home. I have lost a dog too, which was sad times. We replaced him with another. They are joyful and a joy to be together.
I never knew Nacho’s official date of birth, or how old he was when I brought him home. All I know is he suffered unimaginable neglect and abuse. As a result, his health was compromised and that limited our time together. He was brave and allowed himself to trust again and witnessing that, it was a miracle that reaffirms that love can accomplish just about anything except for death.
