Beloved

Beloved

A Poem by MCS

“Saving one dog will not change the world, but surely for that one dog, the world will change forever.” ~ Karen Davison

"

Our home is empty

My heart is broken

The pain ebbs and flows

I know this will take time

I’m trying to be strong

But now I need to mourn

My broken heart will mend

But right now, it's just so painful

When I hear it's just a pet, my anger rises

I’ve lost a beloved family member

He brought such joy and love

To my home and to my life

He enriched my days

This loss is more than I can endure

Your companionship is never taken for granted

I’ve lost a friend that will not be forgotten

He was my companion, my confidante

He will forever live in my heart

Our family link is no more

And like that, nothing is the same

But as the Lord calls us

One at a time, our link

Will once again be whole

Rest in peace, my brave beloved Nacho

Author's Note

MCS
Visit an animal shelter, or rescue, just once, and you will realize the importance of adopting these animals. Always keep in mind that second-hand animals make for first-class pets. Many are surrendered by people who are unable to provide for them, or who simply do not want them any longer. Some are strays. And of course, there are stories that I just don’t want to get into; Nacho was one of these sad cases. Sometimes, animals go through abuse that is completely unimaginable. But it’s never their fault. With a gentle hand, heaps of patience and kindness, these animals learn to trust and wag their tails again. Adopt don’t shop. 🐶 “Rescued is my favorite breed.”

You're welcome 😊
You are right. About 35 million dogs die due to starving in India. Once, my dad was driving, he saw one man with a dog inside his car and he tricked the dog to get out and drove away.

I will encourage others to feed or if possible, adopt instead of shopping. Really sad and good advice, also adopt one when I am older.

Since you read my latest offering, you know I am feeling these same things. I look at the carpet in front of my recliner and cannot believe she isn't there.

M, one of the best ways to deal with the pain is to write. I'll have another one shortly.

Beautiful. Most of the time, I'll choose animals over people.

Hi Mary, Yes, there is something uniquely sad in losing a longtime pet, an adorable little friend who loves unconditionally and is loved unconditionally. To be grieved in one's own time, as any loved family member would be. Nacho was blessed to have you, and vice versa :)

So very sorry Mary for your loss. We are animal lovers, have a cat and a dog. They are family, and the thought of losing them hurts so much. We have a pet graveyard in our garden. Four cats, a rabbit, two gerbils. All very much loved over the years. We wouldn’t be without our animal friends. Look after yourself while you grieve.
