Dread

Anxiety the cruelest noise in silence ~ Carl Setzer

Courage falters as the pulse accelerates

The fear is all consuming now

As dread and panic fills the soul

Rendering the mind useless

The body becomes incapacitated

Now the darkness surrounds

Icy fingers infiltrate the core

Stripping away reason and focus  

The feeling of helplessness is too much

Imprisoned in a black hole without walls

Yet unable to escape

Drowning in murky waters

This offering is a perfect example of why depressed people commit suicide. They don't really want to to die, just make the pain cease.

about six years ago I went through this....was almost rendered completely frozen...unable or unwilling to go out anywhere...I was drowning...and it was really hard to work my way back to shore...I understand the feeling of this poem....You seem to often write me in your poems...
