Lament of the Damned

Lament of the Damned

A Poem by MCS
"

Sadness is but a wall between two gardens. ~ Kahlil Gibran

"

The world doesn’t stop spinning

Not even during horrible events

Throughout this pandemic it seemed to spin faster

To survive one must adapt

How do you shut out the echoes of loss

That turn to screams in quiet moments

We are all feeling betrayed

Because its so difficult to think

When the world is spinning out of control

I love this straightforward statement of how things feel or have felt during the pandemic. Living alone in the wilderness, I have not had this experience, but I want to know how it feels. You do an intense job of getting that across, yet without drama. Your poem reminds me of when I was first unable to walk due to a neck injury & everything about life as I knew it disappeared. I've since built a satisfying alternative life in a wheelchair, but when it all was going south, your poem describes how I felt (((HUGS)))

I sense a great deal of anxiety in this. It does seem, sometimes, like people have lost their ever-loving minds. You captured the sense of despair in a few words. Nicely done.

You won me over with the quote from the great writer Kahlil Gibran. It is strange that in times of strife a society should be reflecting their best. We have failed to do so. Instead of civility and empathy towards one another we sow distrust and lies, as well as hatred. We are all part of this greater world yet fail to live up to its greater ideals. Nature has a way of unifying a species to its highest purpose or eradicating its existence. We should ponder upon these recent events with the seriousness they deserve. They are warnings to something worse on the horizon if we can't come together to resolve our differences.
