Damnum

Damnum

A Poem by MCS

Death and sadness the blackest of beads

threads of pain and sorrow running through it

with a moan of grief

Stars still shine

moon rises in the night sky

sets silently in the early hours of day

The new day not much different from the last

days run into each other

headlines bleak with statistics that do not improve

Some say it is what it is

callous words of indifference

salt in the wounds of those left grieving

This is a stunningly spot-on message that ends in an ankle-snapping truth well-slammed. Last verse is the best worded piece of genius I've read in weeks. I regularly post the covid death toll in the USA on Facebook & people don't acknowledge it . . . but post anything involving Trump, it's the hot spot on the newsfeed. People are addicted to grievance & strife. Reaching 400,000 dead isn't dramatic enuf, I guess! Makes me want to violently puke. But your poem makes it feel like my sensibilities slowly putrifying (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

Margie, thank you for your words of truth. We are in a mess and our leaders are just not with it. .. read more
not enough words to forgive ... not that i would offer such
there are indeed many drowning in grief
it is what it is? NO it is what you made it.

such strength in your words of reflection
your pen knows the anguish of those left behind
so well done of strength and thoughtfulness

thank you my friend you're always so very kind with your support
Your work always resonates right off the page. I can see I have some catching up to do. I hope you are well and know you are thought of often in this mad, mad world we're living in today.

Hello my friend, I've missed you. I'm glad to be back I just needed some down time. Stay safe M
yes, the indifference is maddening.

And you are so right, one day just bleeds into another, sameness, stagnation.
this poem says it all.
