Penalty

Penalty

A Poem by MCS

Night, three o’clock

inky black sky

no moon

no stars

the heart races

with the mind

soon following

crazy thoughts

and fears

rush past

questions that haunt

linger and bother

when did up

become down

when did right

become wrong

in the distance

snapshots unfold

of when things

fell apart

another question

forms

what could

I have done

different

always just two choices

follow the unwashed herd

or follow your conscience

quite the dilemma

at this late hour

yet in the deepest

part of the soul

right is right

and wrong

is still wrong

for J, my buddy the sun will shine again
