EntombA Poem by MCSThe breeze cools the scorching heat moist air off the ocean kisses bare skin sand burns the soles white hot pushing toes deeper seeking coolness bury me here; let the heat warm my bones
Eyes closing, lying back, overwhelming heat shovel beach sand over my burning skin grains sting like hundreds of insect bites layers of sand warm at first than cool dress me in rough layers
Now separate from what I once knew face exposed heated by the sun large and yellow in the sky like a ball of spun sugar heats my lips and lids
Closing my eyes tight I am buried the saltiness of the sand is my new scent I feel myself spreading out like a sail
I am anchored I am going nowhere not even the wind can move me layers of sand hold me in place my sandy grave embraces me
The tide will come in wash over me, cleanse me time will stop for me carve a place just for me no more hours, just bones
I’m not scared of leaving no one will notice I’m gone life will go on sun will set and rise again my only fear is gulls pecking at me © 2013 MCS |
