Enough is enough

I’ve drawn the window shades

the gloom fitting of my mood

 

Life has left the sweetness

out of my time here

 

I’ve learned this mindset

from my mother

 

Mother has learned it from hers

and so it goes in my family

 

Latin scholars must have

a term for this method of teaching

 

We don’t speak of these sufferings

no need to, everyone is touched by it

 

I’ve made it my mission

to teach my daughter different

 

I’ve added sugar to my life and hers

no more shades on my windows

 

My daughter's windows are bare

her life is sweeter

 

This familial cycle broken future daughters

will sweeten to taste
