Waiting room

Waiting room

A Poem by Anthony Garcia

A stale scent of medical supplies

permeates the emotionally dampened room

sullen faces, in a crowd of sorrow, regret

these faces, stricken with shock and sadness

now willing to make any sacrifice necessary

any prayer or barter to secure survival

this room transforms them into God fearing,

miracle wishing, charm wearing,

tonic drinking, fretful, Christian Americans
