Man

Man

A Poem by Anthony Garcia

The day begins with songbird symphony
and sun on the open streets
don’t walk away
please run
his arms are tattoo toxic

he carved you up real thin
and served you like sushi too
your organs sucking air
and drying out
they'll crack before you heal

he's spinning you a web
it’s the thickest of filament
to keep you in his sight
it is not a blanket
and It will not keep you warm

his mouth a smoking gun
with the camel in his teeth
beat you with his words
then uses his tongue
to smooth it all over

you're packing all your things
and burning all your clothes
counting nickels in your purse
he'll never rap on your skin again
you'll be free, to cry on me
