Cellular Split

Cellular Split

A Poem by Anthony Garcia

Twenty-something times I have tried

But home alone tonight, I am nothing

Maybe through tin cans we might be able to communicate

A static pickup on the opposite side of the room

This is not how friends operate

You take time to poke fun of my diction and spelling

But spend even more time

Reading over my letters for lost warmth

I need you like liquor needs fire

Like chicken need wire

Maybe in some other galaxy

Freed from the binds of gravity, and London’s milky lights

We might fight off mitosis
