Briers...

Briers...

A Poem by InkSlinger
"

Getting caught in life's sticky moments..

"
I found myself wandering along in no real direction.
Before too long the path started to coil and wind,
without notice, suddenly, I lost sight.
How could I know, there was no way of knowing,
it just fell off, twisting around the corner
I wandered further, hedging on curiosity
until the path yielded nothing but thorns.
Long armed stems of briers,
brambles, thickets of ripping claws
grabbing, cutting, wishing for blood.
I pushed along through the winding path
thinking there would be some sort of clearing
on the other side, there usually is..
The further I wandered, the thicker the brush
tangled, I was caught up, and soon bloodied
Blinded, I could not move forward, nor could I turn back.
The path before me offered no release, unrelenting spur
The path behind me soon swallowed up
cutting quickly behind me, nettled in thorns
until the path could no longer be seen.
I left a trail of tiny breadcrumbs
even they grew to betray me
like little nippers biting at my heals
they cried until I fed them my soul.
oh concubines of heartbreak
hinder my path no more
release me from these catch weeds
that bind my eyes, and steal my hope.
I do not have the strength to fight the thorns
prickled in twisting reaching lies
the path of breadcrumbs lost around the bend
with curiosity my hope now dies.

So dark, so lost, such angst. I feel the torture of being stuck in this poem.

Excellent write.

. "concubines of heartbreak" is a brilliant expression ... and so is the verse that skillfully cradles it ... this is an intense piece of writing ... complex in parts ... but very soulful ... awesome ...

I kept thinking there would be something beautiful on the other side...gripping writing without the syrupy ending, more realistic I think in some cases. Great write...
