George

George

A Poem by Ronnie
"

A final farewell to a dear friend

"

Some years ago I made a friend - a man I grew to know,

He welcomed me into his life and happy I was so,

We bonded over cups of tea and stories from the past,

So many treasured memories the time would go so fast.

Born and raised in London joined the Navy at 18,

The uniform he wore with pride he kept it all pristine,

He came from next to nothing but he made himself a life,

He had 4 lovely children after marrying his wife.

Valerie, Malcolm, Wendy then baby Paulene came along,

He didn't beat around the bush he'd tell you if you're wrong,

He liked to do the gardening kept his gardens always nice,

He'd turn his to hand at anything never pausing to think twice.

He loved to read his factual books his knowledge was so vast,

He also liked to tell a joke even when I saw him last,

In March it was his birthday and he turned the big “Nine-O”,

We all sang songs together now it seems so long ago.

I often called him Grandad which he didn't seem to mind,

He knew I loved him dearly as he always was so kind,

But now it's time to bid farewell to George my dearest friend,

I wish you peace in heaven George and all my love I'll send.

Love Always

Veronica
