The Absence of A Beat

The Absence of A Beat

A Poem by Inda

The absence of a beat,
An empty seat,
Dust covered clothes,
A fight concerning who's valued most.
Who is entitled to this or that?
Meanwhile the lawyer stares at his watch.
Little Mary asks for grandpa,
There's a sudden quiet and the temperature drops
And the apple on the desk continues to rot.

awwww. this one feels sad.. I get the imagery and emotion of the person (or beat) missing.. it takes me to a scene with a lawyer and the family arguing over who gets what, while the innocent inquires about the missing, the awkward silence in the old dusty house that is now empty and the only thing that shows the time has wasted away is the apple left to rot.. Very nice.. I have to say the first two lines are my favorite.. those profound reminders of what we have lost, what is missing, what is no longer there.. That small emptiness can make a huge whole in your heart... :)

Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it.
There's something delightfully mysterious in this piece, Inda. I like the last sentence "and the apple on the desk continues to rot."
