I Asked For It

I Asked For It

A Poem by Inda

I was welcomed by a strong smell, It was a putrid smell,
The kind that makes your eyes swell,
A mix of old fruit and alcohol.
It was in the air, on his clothes and on the walls.

This drunk was once my father's best friend;
Funny how things change.

He smiled a dirty, foul smile; asked me to sit,
So I did.

" So you want to know about your father?" He yelled.
"Yeah" I answered.

"There's not much I can say son,
Took himself out with a shotgun. "
He said matter-of-factly,
That was exactly
All I knew,
"Tell me something new."
I said; His eyes widened,

"He didn't like children." He declared.

Oh Inda, I love you go from "I" to "his" in your first stanza, for it makes it a little more mysterious to me.. if it's about you, or another persona... then further, I get the picture, so clearly.... it's so rather sad, and poignant what you let me read, but I love it the same way, for it's a fact that happens to many of us, being that neglected by a parent... You capture, the moment so well, I could smell the alcohol, great job dear.
