Dance

Dance

A Poem by Lisa

 He never took me dancing;

We never had the chance

Yet oft in secret came to me

And spoke of sweet romance.

He’d hold me tightly to him

His breath soft on my cheek

And whisper words that only

He and he alone could speak.

Our hearts, a steady rhythm,

Our lips, a heady pace

Our hands, a slow crescendo

Our minds a brilliant chase.

Twin beating hearts, in solitude

Both paralyzed with fear

Swayed gently on a melody

That only we could hear.

The beat was never tepid

But raged, like tongues of fire

Spurred on by fear and pain and

Some insensible desire.

For he was not my partner

And that was not our fate

Instead, the drum that beat for us

Beat long with love and hate.

We tangoed in the moonlight

And rumbaed in the day

And fought the pasadoble;

And waltzed our lives away.

He never took me dancing,

And breathless, on the floor

I stood, resplendent, weeping

As he walked out the door.

You really know how to create a rhythmic piece. It's so nice to read. All those words so pretty and lovely arranged. I think the poem has a dancing tone, as well.
