A Poem by Christine
"

This piece was for a high school poetry slam...I couldn't read it myself, but a classmate of mine performed it and blew the audience away. This is probably the first time I took writing seriously

"

I hate you

Not knowing

Tears flowing

Ever growing

Worse and Worse

My mind is toiling

Blood is boiling

Emotions spoiling

Everything.

Still there’s pain

This never ending game

The lingering shame

Who is to blame?

And there’s you

Confused and broken

Words you leave unspoken

Can’t be woken

From this nightmare

You mistrust

Leave me in the dust

There’s so much to answer

Taking over you like cancer

But you don’t believe

No, you can’t possibly conceive

That there’s a way out of this torture

You pick me apart like a vulture

Unintentional harm

But sound the alarm

I don’t know how much more I can take

Before I bend and break.

Things seem so shattered

At one time I know I mattered

To you

It was true

What happens from here

I can’t get rid of this fear

The pain we inflict

The possibilities I predict

For you and me

If only you could see

That we don’t have to be

This way

I want you to stay

In my life

Enough of the strife

Because in the end

You’re still my best friend

I love you

Christine
for someone I feel incredibly indebted towards and lucky to call a friend, even when we were incapable
