Made in America

Made in America

A Poem by Christine

they made it in sweatshops overseas

they made it with bloody knuckles

they made it in between two slices of bread

they made it in coffee pots

they made it in toaster ovens

they made it behind the wheel going 80

they made it inside mailboxes

they made it under your fingernails

they made it in the litter box;

they made love.

we made it on the insides of your knees

we made it in bathroom stalls

we made it in dorm rooms

(with other people in the room)

we made it last

we made it powerful

we made it diplomatic

we made it in America.

we made make believe

we made pretend

we made something

unfortunately beautiful

(we meant well)
