everything, something, and nothing

everything, something, and nothing

A Poem by Christine

each chance encounter
every stolen glance
every face in the crowd

every cup of coffee
every cigarette
and the pot

of gold at the end
of a rainbow
you can't see

(please, stay golden)

each passing thought
every bleak memory
every uncomfortable silence

any moment of

confusion
is
paralyzing;

(but so is clarity)

then you realize:

every
person
you've
ever
seen or
heard or
touched
is either

everything
something
or
nothing

in the grand existence
of our ephemeral time.

Some of
my Everythings
turned into my Nothings

(it isn't a tragedy)

the nothings are easy;
they no longer hurt.

(be weary of the everythings)

and the Somethings?

some
things
make
me
rigid
and
crazy

some
things
make me
talk
too
much

some
things
make
me
feel
relief
and
terror

at the same time,

you'll find
that when
the Somethings
become Everythings,

you have
encountered

someone

fortunate
and
dangerous

at the same time,

i think
the most
tragic thing
in this world

is

when
something
has the
tenuous potential
to go either way

but
it just
stays
still.

"why
do I need
to pick
one?"

Something will ask.

"why can't I
 stay
right here?"

between everything and nothing
with my thumb up my a*s
unable to

make the call.

(Seriously,
make
that
call.)
